welcome

If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re on some kind of journey.

Maybe you’re deep in self-reflection — asking bigger questions, wanting more from life. Or maybe you’re feeling stuck. Tired. Overwhelmed by expectations, or unsure which way to turn.

Perhaps you’re:

•Navigating a major life change — a breakup, career shift, or loss

•Trying to find clarity or confidence when nothing feels certain

•Wrestling with pressure to keep it all together — at work, at home, in your head

•Feeling disconnected from who you are, or who you want to be

•Wanting to feel more grounded, more energised, more like yourself

Whatever has brought you here — welcome.

Reaching out for support isn’t easy. It takes insight, and courage. But you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

I’m here to offer a space that’s calm, respectful, and real — where we can explore what’s going on for you, and what you want next.

Together, we’ll unpack the patterns, reconnect with what matters, and build practical tools to help you move forward with clarity and strength.

This is psychology for everyday life — not just crisis moments.

Because thriving isn’t about perfection — it’s about feeling more like you, and finding momentum again.

Psychologist. Coach. Human.

I’m Matt  — a registered psychologist based in Brisbane, with a background that’s a little different from most. Before stepping into private practice, I spent over a decade working in corporate consulting, leadership development, coaching, and workplace culture.

That work gave me a front-row seat to the pressures people face — not just in their careers, but in life. I saw how easily the stress, self-doubt, expectations, and emotional load can pile up… even in high-performing, “well-functioning” adults. And I saw how powerful it is when someone finally says, “I need to do something for me.”

That’s where this practice was born.

My Style

I’m not your classic white-coat psychologist. I’m calm but energising, empathetic but straight-talking, professional but real. You won’t find me nodding silently behind a clipboard — instead, I take an active, collaborative role in your journey. I’ll ask questions, challenge unhelpful stories, and equip you with tools that work in the real world.

My work is grounded in evidence-based methods like:

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Motivational Interviewing

Positive Psychology

Interpersonal Therapy

But just as importantly, it’s grounded in real life. I bring warmth, humour, curiosity, and an unwavering belief in your ability to grow.

Where My Approach Comes From

My style has been shaped by both lived experience and the people I’ve had the privilege to support — from executives facing burnout, to parents juggling invisible emotional loads, to young adults asking “Is this it?”

I’ve always taken a holistic view: life isn’t neatly separated into work and personal. We show up as whole humans — parents, partners, professionals, friends — and all those roles shape how we feel, relate, and cope.

Years ago, I volunteered as a Crisis Supporter with Lifeline. Those late-night calls, speaking to people in their most vulnerable moments, taught me one of the greatest lessons of my life: even in the darkest times, having someone genuinely in your corner can spark hope. That insight stays with me.

My role isn’t to fix you — it’s to walk beside you as you reconnect with your strength, your values, and your direction.

More Than a Mind — A Whole Human

Outside of the therapy room, I’ve spent years immersed in sport — playing and coaching Rugby, Gridiron, CrossFit, and TRL. Coaching premiership-winning rugby teams taught me the power of mindset, strategy, and self-belief — and I bring that into my work with clients.

Think of therapy with me like a mental PT session: we identify what matters, build your mental fitness, and work toward your version of a meaningful, thriving life.

what to expect

Therapy?!

Therapy?!

Therapy?!

If you’re new to therapy, you might be wondering; What actually happens in a session? Will it be awkward? Will I be analysed? Does it always have to link back to some deep-seeded unresolved childhood incident?

Totally fair questions. Here’s what you can expect when working with me…

Session 1

Therapy?!

Therapy?!

Our first session is about getting to know you — the full picture. I’ll ask questions to understand what’s been going on in your world, what’s brought you here, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. We’ll talk about what’s feeling hard right now, any patterns you’ve noticed, and the areas you’d like support in. It’s also a chance for you to ask me anything — how I work, what therapy can look like, and how we can tailor this to your needs.

There’s no pressure to “have it all figured out” — this session is exploratory, curious, and collaborative. You talk, I listen and guide, and together we start to shape a direction.

Session 2 onwards

Action-Oriented and Strengths-Based

Action-Oriented and Strengths-Based

Once we’ve built that foundation, our sessions start to focus in. We’ll begin to unpack the challenges you’re facing in more depth — looking at your thoughts, emotions, habits, values, and relationships through a compassionate and evidence-based lens.

You’ll start to gain new perspectives and insights, and we’ll begin to build a roadmap together toward the changes or goals that matter to you.

Action-Oriented and Strengths-Based

Action-Oriented and Strengths-Based

As we progress, therapy becomes more active, empowering, and forward-looking. That might involve:

•Exploring tools for managing stress, uncertainty, or self-criticism •Practicing new ways to respond to challenges (not just talk about them)

•Clarifying values to guide decisions and direction

•Developing practical strategies you can apply outside the therapy room

You’ll often leave with something to reflect on or try between sessions — not as a test, but as a way tobuild momentum and confidence in real life. This could be a mindset shift, a conversation to have, or a new habit to experiment with.

Think of our work as a collaborative process — like rugby Coach and the Captain, we’ll explore what’s holding you back and how you want to move forward. As Coach, I’ll bring structure, tools, and insight. As Captain, you’re in control, you bring honesty, curiosity, and a willingness to show up.

You won’t be boxed into a diagnosis or made to relive your past over and over — unless that’s something you want to explore. The focus is always on what’s helpful, meaningful, and empowering for you.
